Saying bye is always hard

I am one of those people who cries hysterically at airport's, when I was younger and went back to Karachi, Pakistan, the city where I was born I was inconsolable when I had to leave. I had already gone through most of the security checks and because I was so upset the Airport staff actually allowed me to go back and say bye to friends and family once more, I don't know if that was  a good idea as I was even more upset when I had to leave them again. I am not that bad any more but I still find it really hard to say bye. I didn't know that people actually gave cards out when they moved until I got one from a friend sometime ago, it wasn't a handmade card but I thought it was a great idea to send out a card to let me know she was moving.

The windy road on this card was created on inkscape, at first the design was going to be a straight road but in the end it was decided a road fading out would give the idea of going faraway. The car image is a digital stamp from Two peas in a bucket that I have paper pieced and added dimensional magic to the windows to give the look of glass. The sentiment was done in Onyx font, the first half is a smaller font size than the second half and there is more space between the letters in the first half than the second half. Visually this is to show in the first half the distance between the people and in the second half the closeness.

Just a simple note

Yesterday was the first day of my Easter break, I have so been looking forward to this time off, the weather has been wonderful in Sydney as well :). The challenge over at CASology is just up my street this week. I love working with subjects that are part of everyday lives. I have a lot of friends who are musicians and one of them kindly gave me some very old sheet music and although I couldn't use the vintage papers on this card I certainly was inspired by all the beautiful notes to come up with this CAS card.

This card was designed on potoshop using a free treble clef image. The five horizontal lines were added on an angle and sentiment has been done using Anke Calligraphic FG font. After the  design was printed I added dimensional magic to the note and a heart jewel to add a little bit of sparkle to the card.

Sometimes you just have to give into retail therapy

The other day I just had to go to one of my favourite scrapbooking stores called Fantasia and shop. It was so much fun being there with my good friend Lin. I gave her a $50 Birthday voucher whilst we were there and we so enjoyed shopping, it had been about a year and a half since I had gone to this shop, that is a pretty awesome effort on my part. I purchased quite a few things whilst I was there including the wooden WOW, mini people set that is featured on this card. I absolutely loved this set and I know I will be using them over and over again on my cards.

This card was designed on photoshop using all the colours from this week's ColourQ challenge. A free heart image was used to create the nested heart design which was influenced by the inspiration picture from CASE Study. The word Congratulations has been done in Trebuchet font which I use when I want a simple font that still has an impact. I printed the heart with sentiment on my PC, cut to size and stuck it onto the backing card and lastly added the wooden couple. I am going to enjoy making this card in different colours and will be sharing any variations from this design.

A design full of ovals

This card has been in the making for quite some time. When I saw the oval challenge over at CAS-ual Fridays, I knew I wanted to play along but I wanted to come up with something that used ovals in an imaginative way. I racked my brain and came up with this idea after looking at vintage furniture magazines that my good friend has hundred's of. I love the bright colours and curves of retro furniture which has been replicated when designing this card.

All the elements in this card have been designed from scratch. Inkscape as well as photoshop has been used to come up with everything in this card. There are 20 different sized ovals in the picture, if you look closely I am sure you will be able to find them all. The font used for the sentiment is "Alba" which I think is a great font to use for retro themed cards. I printed an extra vase that has been paper-pieced to the card and I put dimensional magic on the flower petals to make them stand out.

It may be raining but it's all sunshine and flowers on my blog

Well, I'm certainly no gardener but I absolutely love gardens and spring so I had lot's of fun making this bright and happy card. As I mentioned in my last post it's going to be very rainy all weekend so I intend staying positive by making cheerful cards. My greatest fear this weekend is that I will get called in to work whilst I am on a creative roll, hopefully it won't happen.

For this card I used another lot of digital stamps that I love, these stamps were purchased from Digital Vintage Dreams-Etsy. This is a very simple card on which I have combined the digital stamps to create a garden scene. The font used for the Happy Birthday sentiment is "chick" which is a free font perfect for any bright and fun cards, the sentiment has beenp= printed following an arc. I printed the image on white card stock and printed one extra owl that I cut out and paper-pieced to the card.

It's going to be a wet weekend in Sydney

It's been a wet start to the weekend here in Sydney but I still managed to go out with my friend for dinner and had a lovely time catching up. I looked like a drowned rat by the time I got to the restaurant but there were quite a few others in the same boat. The wet weather means that most of  this weekend will probably be spent crafting if I'm not called into work.

This is one of my favourite digital images and because of my disorganisation of my digital files I am not sure where I purchased this stamp from, if I find the details I will update this post. This is a very simple card where I have focused on the main image. I added the quote using open office, I think this quote goes perfectly with this picture. I printed the image and stuck it to the card using dimensional foam, I printed an extra rain drop with text and paper-pieced it to the card.

I like things the old fashioned way

I am sure that all of you can relate to the fact that there is nothing like getting a card or letter  in the mail. I know around my Birthday I always get excited to see the postman come around as it means that I will be receiving cards from my relatives and friends near and far.

This card pays tribute to the simple act of getting mail the old fashioned way. I fell in love with this card over at My paper secret, I don't have any of the stamps that were used in Cristina's card so my husband and I set out to make a custom made digital image of a postal van. We used both photoshop and inkscape to create the little van. The collage of the postage stamps in the van are free digital stamps and at the moment I have no idea where we got them from, I will try and find the details and update later on. The van did take a long time to design but I have to admit I am very happy with the final result. The background was printed including the envelope edging, the hello digital stamp and the sentiment.I printed the postal van separately and paper-pieced it to the card.
