I'm finally able to blog again

I am finally able to blog again which is fantastic. Our old internet service stopped working all together, I think I mentioned before that we were having issues and because of this I wasn't able to blog. We have got a new internet service now and although we are are having a few teething problems I think it will all be good soon.

During the time that I haven't been able to blog I have finally done up my work area and let me just say that I love it and I can't believe it's the same room as before. I did some major re-organising and culling and finally have the room exactly the way I want it, it took me a long time to get it this way but it was worth it. It's funny, now that I have this lovely room I am finding it so much easier to keep neat, I hope to share some photos of my new room soon.

This is the first card I have made in my new room, and yes I did clean up right after making it and unlike before I still have a clean desk after making this card, miracles do happen. For this card I used some of my favourite digital images. I paper-pieced the middle balloon and added the sentiment hello using a block font. I also paper-pieced the flower on the monkey.

Getting my creative space organised and a maritime card

Let  me just say that at the moment I am going nuts, I have decided to re organise my creative space. I have taken out everything from the area I currently work in and will be ruthless in getting rid off anything I don't need and organise everything else in a way that I can actually get to everything I need. Once this is done my crafting life will be a lot easier but until then it's going to drive me crazy going through everything, I will share a photo of the completed room when it's done.

did this card to take a break from re-organising. This is a simple card focusing on a little ship on the high seas. The waves, the ship and the birds are free digital images. The ship and the waves have been paper pieced onto the white textured cardstock, as usual I used dimensional foam tape to paper piece.

Off the edge has to be my favourite technique

As I have mentioned before I have always enjoyed using the off the edge technique on my cards. Being a CAS card maker I look for simple ways to add dimension and movement to my cards and this is such an easy technique to achieve this. I am having so much fun using my new images from Collective Collection, Etsy. This image I find is perfect for both males and females and I am sure I will use it many times over.

For this card I printed the quill and ink bottle image as well as the sentiment which has been done in Zapfino Linotype One font directly onto white textured cardstock . It has been printed so that the quill goes over the edge when cut out. I double printed the ink bottle, cut it out and stuck to the cardstock using self-adhesive dimensional foam. I added dimensional magic to the ink in the bottle to give the look of liquid.

Just a simple turtle card

I have always loved turtles, I think they are totally cute and have a lot of character. When we went to Bali we went to a turtle farm where I thought I would be able to see lots of turtles but instead there was only one very old turtle that people were taking turns to sit on . I was in absolute shock that there were people who actually enjoyed doing this, it was a very disappointing outing, certainly not one of my holiday hightlights.

This card was made using my new digital image from Collective Collection, Etsy. I printed the turtle images to follow the sketch. I paper-pieced the turtle's shells and the sentiment was done in Susie's hand.

Can't get enough of Africa

I have made some more cards using my Kaisercraft wooden animals. The details of how I made these cards can be found here. I have left these cards without a sentiment so that they can be used for a variety of occasions. I am certainly going out of my comfort zone with these cards as I always feel that I need to add a quote or a sentiment to the front of my cards. I have now used up all my wooden animals, having so much fun going through my stash.

Nothing like an African Sunset

Ever since a child I had wanted to visit Africa, I have always been fascinated with the animals, the culture, the music, the people and everything else this amazing continent has to offer. When I finally got to travel through South Africa, Zanzibar and Kenya it was like a dream come true. Whilst on Safari in South Africa I nearly got us all killed, as soon as I saw the first elephant in it's natural habitat I stood up in the open truck to take my photo and as soon as I did this the elephant came charging after the truck, the driver had to speed off hell for leather. I was so excited about seeing the elephant that I didn't hear the driver's warning about not standing up. Although I nearly caused a serious accident I did manage to  get a really good photo of the elephant that I will always treasure.

This card was inspired by my love of Africa. For this card I used a free image of an African sunset that I printed on my PC. The elephant is a Kaisercraft wooden embellishment from my stash that I coloured in black and stuck to the background using self adhesive dimensional foam dots. For the twine border I cut out two thin strips of cardstock onto which I adhered the twine with double sided tape, I then cut the edges of the twine with a metal ruler and craft knife to neaten up.

I actually did a one layer card

Although I am a lover of CAS I find it hard to do one layer cards. I always feel the need to paper-piece to add some dimension, so me just say that this card took me out of my comfort zone. I may start doing some one layer cards from now on.

For this card I used the digital images from Collective Creation, Etsy, I absolutely love this etsy shop and I encourage you to check it out. I placed the cats on the edge of the card to allow for the tails to go over the edge. I love the over the edge technique and use it in my cards often to give the idea of movement. The sentiment has been  done in Zapfino Linotype One font.
